Bere Island

Is the cost of the ferry included in my booking?

No, you need to pay the ferry operator directly. Please note that both operators only accept cash.

How long does the ferry take?

The crossing from Castletownbere to the West End takes about 15mins and the crossing from The Pontoon to Rerrin Village takes just under 30mins.

Can I bring my car?

Yes. Bere Island is served by two car ferries (see ‘getting here’ for more details). Please note that you cannot book the ferries in advance so at peak times you might have to queue.

What happens if the ferry is full?

Don’t worry, they will come straight back for you. You will not be left behind!

Is the ferry ever cancelled because of bad weather?

Bantry Bay is very sheltered, and it would be very unusual, particularly during the summer season, that a ferry would be cancelled.

The Glampsite

How do I get from the ferry to Wild Atlantic Glamping?

The glampsite is located 6.5km from the West End and 1.6km from Rerrin Village. If you are not planning to arrive by car or bike, just contact us in advance and we will arrange to collect you from the ferry. There are signs to the site from each ferry.

Do you take group bookings and parties?

You can contact us directly for group bookings but please note that we can’t accommodate any parties unless you have booked the full site exclusively for your group.

What is in the kitchen?

We have a fully equipped kitchen with ovens, microwaves, fridges, hobs, pots, pans, cooking utensils, cutlery and tableware.

Is there parking available?

Yes, there is plenty of parking (no additional charge) at the glampsite.

Can I park my car next to my tent?

To keep the view as clear as possible, parking is only allowed in the designated carpark which is around 150m from the glamping area.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately we can not accommodate pets.

Do I have my own bathroom?

The toilets and showers are all located in the communal building which is between 50 and 100m from your tent. These can be accessed 24 hours a day.

What time can I access the kitchen and dining area?

These communal spaces can be accessed between 7:30am and 10:30pm. The kitchen and dining areas are closed for cleaning between 11am and 12noon daily.

Is there a noise curfew?

There is a strict ‘no noise’ policy between 11pm and 7:30am.

Services

I have never been glamping before, what do I need to pack?

This is Ireland, the weather will be unpredictable and changeable so you will need lots of layers! You will be sleeping in a tent, albeit a very luxurious one but it is still a tent. Bring warm clothes to sleep in, woolly socks and a hat. Lots of guests find that an eye mask and hot water bottle are useful. You will be spending your days outdoors in nature so leave your high heels at home and pack hiking boots, runners, sunglasses, raincoat, swimming togs, bug spray, torch and sunscreen. You will be provided with bed linen and towels but please bring your own beach towel.

Is there an ATM?

Please note that a lot of services do not accept cards and there is no ATM on the island. The nearest ATM is in Castletownbere. AIB customers can access cash through the Post Office.

Can you lock the bell tents?

No, the tents are closed with a zip. We recommend that you leave any valuables at home.

Is there mobile phone reception at the glampsite?

Coverage can vary depending on your provider. For example, the Three and Eir networks are strong, but Vodafone reception can be limited.

What time is check in and check out?

Check in is from 4pm each day. Check out is at 11am.

What is your cancellation policy?

For individual bookings, cancellations made 30 days or more before check in date will receive a full refund. Deposit will not be refunded for cancellations made within 30 days of check in date. Please note that a 10% non refundable deposit is required for private hire of the full glamping site.

Do you have a travel cot?

We do not provide travel cots but you are welcome to bring one with you. Please mention this when booking.

How about food? Are there shops, restaurants, and pubs on the island?

Rerrin Village has a pub, a small shop for the essentials (bread, milk, butter etc.) as well as The Bakehouse Café serving breakfast, lunch and early evening meals that is open seasonally. There is a pub and restaurant, ‘The Hotel’, serving evening meals all year which is 3.5km from the campsite and a second seasonal restaurant, The Lookout, at the West End pier. There is a SuperValu in Castletown where you can stock up on plenty of fresh and local produce before you get on the ferry.

Do you have WIFI and can I charge my phone?

We do have WIFI in the communal building but please remember that this is a rural location so don’t expect too much! Each glamping tent will have a power point so you can charge your phone.

Can I use a BBQ or light a campfire?

There is a designated area for BBQs. We have two gas BBQs and two charcoal BBQs that you can use. There is a firepit on the terrace in the communal area. You are not permitted to light your own campfire or BBQ other than in the designated area.

Is there somewhere that I can pitch my own tent?

We don’t have an area for people pitching their own tents.

Do you have recycling and composting facilities?

We have recycling facilities for glass, cans, cardboard, paper, and plastics. All recycling will need to be clean and separated. Please note that this is an unspoilt island and our resources are limited. For any other rubbish (such as nappies, non-recyclable plastic, cling film etc.) we ask that you keep it to a minimum and ideally take it away with you.
